Three Generations, One Promise: The Story Behind Suryavanshi Jewellers

Every piece of jewellery we sell today carries the weight of a story that started over a hundred years ago, long before Suryavanshi was a name on a storefront in Jaipur.

1915 — A 13-year-old apprentice in Delhi

Our great-grandfather, fondly remembered as Bapuji, began working with gold in Delhi at just thirteen years old — learning the trade the only way it was taught then, hands-on, under the guidance of master craftsmen.

1916 to 1980s — Building across three cities

A year later, he opened a small shop in Ramgarh, trading gemstones and old jewellery. By the 1960s, the family had expanded into gemstone trading in Bombay, and through the 1980s, into exporting Indian art and antiques — decades spent learning every side of the trade, not just the retail counter.

1991 — A new generation steps in

Ramkant Ji Johari joined the business in 1991, opening a new era of growth for the family. Under his stewardship, operations expanded to Jaipur in 2000, laying the foundation for what would eventually become Suryavanshi. Between 2010 and 2017, Suryavanshi Gems & Jewellery operated as a leading wholesale jewellery brand — building relationships and expertise that still shape how we source and craft today.

2018 — The birth of Suryavanshi

In 2018, that century of experience came together as Rajasthan's first one-stop premium wedding store — Suryavanshi, in Jaipur. The idea was simple: a bride and her family shouldn't have to run between a dozen shops for jewellery, outfits, and everything in between. One trusted address, built on the same values Bapuji started with in 1915 — honest craftsmanship and a fair price.

What hasn't changed

A hundred years and four generations later, the values are the same ones this family started with: trust, authenticity, craftsmanship, transparency, and respect for the customer standing at the counter. Every certification we carry today — BIS for gold, IGI for diamonds — exists to formalise a promise this family was already keeping long before it was required.

We'd love to have you visit the store and see this legacy in person, or book a private appointment with our team.
